Non fiction
3. On the basis of the review of Mark Bauerlein's book The Dumbest Generation (text 4), discuss some appropriate ways of using the Internet.
The review of Mark Bauerlein's book mainly focuses on the side effects of the Internet. For instance, it says that the young people choose to spend a lot of time on gossip and to follow each other instead of using the Internet for learning, political action or education. Mark Bauerlein according to the review claims that the young people do not know anything about history or politics today and he even dares to say that the Internet has made us dumber. However, not all share the same opinion as Mark Baulerlein. Some might argue that social networks as for example Facebook and MySpace are places where all people can socialize - including the young people who lacks social skills in 'the real life'. This can be helpful. Though, it seems as if social networks may have some harmful effects on some young people.
Even though, the Internet may have some harmful effects, the Internet is an important part of our modern society today. A lot of our communication are based on the Internet. I will even state that the Internet
has stolen some of the previous advantages from the mobile phone industry. When message typing boomed, it was the easiest and fastest way of providing information to your friends, family, work etc. Now with help of the Internet for example Facebook you are able to send out your announcement to all your friends at the same time. Ironically, the mobile phone itself is a perfect tool to reach Facebook meaning that you can reach Facebook no matter when and where.
And there are no doubts that the Internet is a useful tool to find information very quickly.
We must use the Internet moderately. The Internet has disadventages and it might have some harmful effects on some people. In the modern society we live in today most of us are dependent on the Internet - and we should for that reason be careful about how we use it.
